Gardens are loved by all the human being. But what about water gardening. Water which is considered the the important part of human beings and no doubt every animate thing from plants to animals. What a soothing effect it has on our senses when we hear a sound of a water fall in some mountains and people are so fascinated that nowadays some people build it in their houses. It is music to our ears. Imagine if you can have such a water pond, fountains, waterfalls say garden in your house how soothing it will be when you see fresh water pond full of fishes aquatic plants etc If you have mall space water gardening is ideal for you .So don’t get disheartened if you don’t have a huge place water garden can be made in small place also like a barrel plastic tub or any kind of container that can hold water .But a place where there is enough light that means you get the sunlight for considerable time that is the best place .
CHOOSING AQUATIC PLANTS- There are many types of aquatic plants to choose from floating to Oxygenates .Oxygenators -These are rootless and live under water. Floating water plants –they float freely on water . Partly emerging – they root into mud and flower is projected out of pond water. Marginal pond plants- they have longest lists they don’t like drying out cattail, bamboo, papyrus fall into this family and doesn’t need more than 6’’depth . Hyacinth is the plant which needs to be put in water and it grows in it. It fights algae and weeds by keeping sunlight scarce on water surface. Bog plants – wet mud is all that is required for them Water lilies –these are deep water aquatic plants that root on bottom and the leaves are on the surface bog plants-Water lettuce, duck weed ,water chestnut are some of the floating plants The plants that don’t take much space should be selected like water lilies. Lotus –Much bigger than water lilies lotus have big leaves big and beautiful these need 2 to 3 feet of depth These plants add value to the environment like;
{1} these plants convert carbon dioxide in the air to oxygen in the water and produce energy in the form of sugars –photosynthesis
{ 2} All pond plants contain nitrogen chemicals that builds up in water. Water cress is used for this purpose
{3}they have limited filtering effect
Now that you know what plants to choose from its time to know how to plant them ; - These plants grow big so don’t over plant them. For water lilies it needs 60cm deep water. To plant these there are specially designed baskets which should be filled with aquatic composites only . For marginal plants use coco mats and place pebbles on mat to keep it submerged. Marsh, marigold, iris, water mint these are shallow water plants with 5cm of water depth To keep the water clean and clear oxygenates like water crowfoot and water violet should be planted So what are you waiting for go and buy some aquatic plants and enjoy their scent that emanates from these plants
